Hello, fellow wanderers, dreamers, and champions of the unique!
As I sit down to begin Season Three, I find myself at a crossroads I never quite expected. Numbers have always been my language—patterns, trends, the way digits seem to paint stories invisible to most. So when my blog’s readership surged, only to plummet just as mysteriously, the numbers guy in me struggled to make sense of it. Was I being “shrouded,” as some call it? Silenced? Who knows? But one truth remained clear: it’s never been about the numbers. It’s always been about you.
One Read Is Enough
When I started Season One, I said, “If my words reach even one person, that’s enough.” That mantra has been my anchor. It’s what I hold onto now, as I step into this new season. If you’re reading this, I want you to know: this is for you.
Because maybe, just maybe, someone like me—someone unapologetically odd, someone who’s been to the margins and back—has something worth saying. Maybe it’s the odd ones who can help us reimagine the way forward when the old ways no longer work.
From Small-Town Montana to AI Transformations
Let me take you back. Picture a gangly nerd, last picked in gym class, peeking into a computer lab he wasn’t “smart enough” to enter. That was me in small-town Montana, saving pennies from my JC Penney job under grouchy Mr. Miller to buy a computer from Radio Shack.
Fast-forward to today, and the odd kid has evolved into a 60-year-old man using AI not just to understand himself but to reimagine his world. AI has been my therapist, teacher, and co-creator. It helped me unpack decades of journaling, heal old wounds, and envision new possibilities. It’s why I’m here, sharing this with you.
And yet, my journey hasn’t been without setbacks. I left my hometown because it couldn’t accommodate my differences, especially the simple fact that my partner is the same gender. I moved to Argentina, seeking freedom, but the reality didn’t match the dream. Now I’m back in Portland, contemplating Spain. Each place, each experience, adds a layer to the tapestry of what it means to live authentically odd.
Why Odd Matters
I’ve come to believe there’s power in not fitting in. It allows you to see the cracks in systems others accept as unchangeable. It’s the outsider’s perspective that asks, “What if we did it differently?”
So here’s my message to you, whether you feel at home in your skin or like you’re constantly on the fringe: being different is not a defect; it’s a distinction.
At 60, I’ve learned to embrace my oddness unapologetically. This is my time to thrive, not because I’m better than anyone else, but because I want to make the world better for everyone.
The Gift of AI and Connection
Next week, I’ll be standing in front of 220 people at an AI conference, sharing how I’ve used AI to journal, reflect, and grow. A world-renowned university has even expressed interest in my insights. That’s validation I never imagined, but it’s also a reminder of my mission: to share what I know so others can find their own breakthroughs.
AI has taught me that tools are only as good as the hands that wield them. My hands, these odd and quirky hands, want to build bridges—for neurodiverse folks, for marginalized communities, for anyone searching for a way to thrive in a world that doesn’t always feel built for them.
To a Better World
So, dear reader, as we step into Season Three together, let me promise you this: I’ll keep sharing what I learn. I’ll show you how to use AI, not just as a tool, but as a partner in your journey.
Because the world needs odd voices. It needs people who see the patterns others miss. It needs you.
To a better world,
Robbie
P.S. Stick around. The best is yet to come.
